Big Bill from Montana came back for some more. A couple years ago I did Jimi on his front fairing and he decided the bike just wasn’t done so we went to work.

The plan was to make Jimi summoning the spirits of rock and roll from the smoke of his burning guitar and have it roll down the bike. So, we chose wisely the rockers to have in the midst and went to work.

The list- Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Bon Scott, Ronnie VanZandt, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bob Marley and Johnny Cash the man in Black.

After a meticulous dis-assembly everything chrome on the bike was powdercoated 20% gloss black to match the flat color of the hand controls.

Dirico Motorcycles Air Force bike.

Number two of five bikes True Kustom is doing for Dirico Motorcycles http://diricomotorcycles.com/home.asp. This is the Special Operations Command Air Force tribute bike, The image below is the predesign for the bike, one of Dirico’s Pro Street models.

Our attack was to demonstrate the Air Force Combat Control division. “First There”

We started with a black base and laid out our silhouettes then applied a white pearl base and blue, black and a little orange candy to create the sky. Next we cleaned off our masking and cleared the colors to lock them down.

This is a custom rifle we painted for a gentleman from CastleRock CO. He came to us with a rifle stock he had dipped in mossy oak style camo and said he wanted something better, so we did it. We used the camo as an underlay of a black ripped open cover with airbrushed deer skulls all over it. Fun piece.

Some step by step and how to’s of airbrush art we do.

This piece is for a BMW Z4 we lightly customized for a client. She said she wanted dragons, smoke and skulls. I took a little influence from Fitto and his great contrast of black and white with color.

This is the digital design. Using photoshop, I start with an image of the part and build the whole piece digitaly for three reasons. One is to show the client to make sure it is what they want. Two is to know what I am going to do in the beginning, not as I go, and I can estimate price. Three is COMPOSITION. Detail is important but does not mean near as much without good composition. Good composition can be seen from across the room, detail can not.

With the part prepped, primed and a basecoat with a layer of intercoat clear on it I mask out the areas I want to stay silver. My intention is to leave the silver border and have it look beveled. I really want a ton of depth in this piece.

I scaled the dragon image to the correct size, printed it and cut it out to use as a guide. After placing it per the design I shade just a little color around the outside to use as a preliminary guide.

Step by step I choose a defining shape of the image and cut it apart. Choosing to use each part as a guide to the most contrasting areas of the image I place it and airbrush some guide color to the shadow side.

OK, so here is the fun part. By using a print of the image I am reproducing I very tediously begin to line and shadow just like the image I started with. I did choose with this piece to adjust it slightly. I want to head to be closer so I lightened it and darkened the body.

Everything here is control. My airbrush is very clean with fresh rebuild. If you notice the scribbles on the bottom right of the image, that is testing paint viscosity, making sure it is shooting properly before I touch the actual piece. Other than that it is years of practice. TEN THOUSAND DAGGER STROKES!

Although a little blurry, this image is after i shot in some smoke like forms ion the background. An important step is that the dragon has been back masked with frisket.

Now for the purple candy.

“Snake Bones” Chris’s 2011 Harley Fatbob

Chris came to us with the idea of smoke and skulls. We here that a lot, so I began asking him some more questions about his inspiration. Through our conversation he mentioned that his son is way into snakes and the light came on in my head. I said “What about a snake skull and skeleton with smoke around it?” he was stoked. So I did a little google images searching, found a cool rattlesnake skeleton and ran with the design. As we developed his artwork he mentioned that he wanted to see what blacked out wheels and pipes would look like so I did that too and came up with this.

Step 1: Rip it apart… OK take it apart and carefully label where each part goes… Nah rip it apart…

So now the art begins.

We decided to redraw and animate the snake a little, bigger teeth, and a pissed off eye.

Working on the tail section next. The wheels are black and getting installed just waiting for the pipes and paint.
